Flávia Vieira develops her work from the intersection between ecology and colonial history, exploring notions of identity and collective representation, botanical diaspora and otherness. The cultural, historical and political narratives embedded in materials and making processes constitute a recurring point of departure in her research. Her work explores how colonial legacies and historical systems of representation continue to shape contemporary ways of classifying, domesticating and managing living beings.

Through an interdisciplinary approach, her practice brings together artistic research, natural history, cultural studies and postcolonial thought, exploring the relationships between nature, power and representation.

Colour emerges as a central axis in her practice, explored through its material and political dimensions, often through the production of pigments derived from organic and mineral matter and through experimentation with processes of material transformation.

Taking shape primarily through installation, her work combines sculptural elements in ceramics and textiles with spacial devices, image and sound. Her practice is grounded in a process-based methodology that integrates research, fieldwork and hands-on production processes.
